A multiple choice question for you...when you think of the Houston Texans Grille what comes to mind?:

a) A bad ass sports bar
b) A restaurant that serves up a pretty good meal
c) Something in the mouth of one or more of the players on the Texans team
d) A restaurant in City Centre that is now offering a new weekday lunch program called Fast Break Lunch
e) All of the above

If you answered "E" then you are correct. We recently had an opportunity to check out the new Fast Break Lunch program and visit the Houston Texans Grille for the first time. Can I just say this place is like no sports bar I've ever visited! It's swank and je ne sais quoi consumed me for the first few minutes. The restaurant is known for not only providing the ultimate sports viewing experience, but is a chef-driven restaurant with freshly prepared American fare. Yes, they take their food as seriously as they take their sports, which we found out when we got our first taste of the food.

During our visit, we decided to try the Fast Break Lunch program and to order from the menu as well. Our menu selections were: Southwest Club - mesquite smoked turkey, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato and chipotle mayo on wheat toast and the Blackened Fish Sandwich - tartar sauce, shredded lettuce, tomato on a toasted bun. We very much enjoyed our selections and were even more impressed when would found out that all their fish is fresh and brought in daily; they actually drive out to meet the fisherman in between Houston and Galveston every morning. Since we were also visiting to hear about and see how Fast Break (their new lunch program) works, it was only fitting that we try it out in its entirety.

The Fast Break Lunch is a weekday lunch program designed to help diners make the most out of their lunch break, offering fresh food that can be eaten at the restaurant or taken to go. Here's how it works:

1. Visit www.houstontexansgrille.com to view the menu.
2. Call and place your Fast Break Lunch order (713-461-2002).
3. Let them know what time you plan on arriving at the restaurant (must be between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.).
4. Check in with the host stand when you arrive. Your table will be set with your beverages and your order will be served within minutes.

It's pretty much that simple! Chef Jason Bessent's Fast Break Lunch menu features several lunch-time favorites like Shrimp Tacos (which we ordered), Green Chile Burger, Mediterranean Salad, and Pan Asian Chicken Salad; just to name a few. You can also go rogue and order something off their regular menu if you choose too as well. Since City Centre is not always the easiest place to get in and out very quickly, they offer VIP Valet service for those who want their food to-go. You call in your order and then pull into the valet area located in front of the restaurant, and they will bring your meal out to the car.

They are really on to something with this fast break option. Give them a try the next time you want to get in and out, or even when you have time to linger during lunch.
