How do you spell relief? Depending on the day, month, temperature, and just our overall ATTA-TUDE it can be spelled many different ways. Last month, however, it was spelled H-O-T-E-L I-C-O-N; by way of their media reveal, which we quickly renamed "Fun Time In The City". Yes folks, your girls needed relief and a break from it all (insert husbands if you want the real-real)! So when we got the invite to the reveal of Hotel Icon's multi-million dollar redesign we were all over it.
The event was arranged as a progressive evening, starting at 4 p.m. and ending the next day - think of it as a progressive dinner on steroids! For those that are still lost and are wondering, "What’s a progressive dinner?", here is a little background on progressive dinners. It’s a dinner party where each course is eaten in a different location. So with this event, the "progressive" fun started upon arrival, and we traveled to different parts of the hotel for each course.
4 p.m. - This is the time that guests could start arriving and enjoying the hotel. About 2 hours before we had to appear downstairs, a nice fruit and cheese tray arrived along with our formal invitation laying out the evening activities.
7 p.m. - Cocktail hour began and we were treated to signature cocktails and heavy canapés. Check out the deliciousness we had to choose from:
- Venison Sausage Gougeres
- Roasted Peppers with Redneck Cheddar Pimento Cheese
- Beets, Whipped Feta, Pickled Turnips on Taro Chips
- Fennel, Orange and Tomato Broth with Pickled Shrimp and Lentil Caviar
- Tomatoes with Cucumber, Onion, Feta, Basil, Mint and Pepitas
- Konigsberger Klopse Wild Boar Meatballs with Sour Cream Sauce
- Gulf Cobia, Garlic Swiss Chard, Grapefruit, Hazelnuts and Beet Salsa
- Broken Arrow Ranch Nilgai Antelope, Crushed Fingerling Potatoes and Braised Red Cabbage
Penthouse Nightcap - We made our way upstairs for desserts, coffee and specialty drinks and then on to the third floor of the Ritz Suite, which opens onto a terrace that offers breath taking views of the city. At the time of the event they were still waiting for all the new furniture to be delivered; but even with the old stuff this suite was something special.

Sweet Dreams or PARTAY TIME - Now after all this action, some people made their way back to their room (party poopers). While others headed out into the night to keep the PARTAY going!
Hotel Icon certainly knows how to throw a party that is complete with a fun time, adult cocktails that will leave you smiling, and a great meal that will have you wanting seconds. It just goes to show that you don't have to travel far to experience something completely unique and that is conveniently located in your own backyard. So, if you want to plan your own "Fun Time In The City" for you and your crew or that special someone, this is a great place to start. Think of it as a mini vacation; complete with the nostalgic feeling of old Hollywood meets modern day Texas. We simply just like to call it relief...translation "don't cheat yourself; treat yourself"!
