Urban Swank had their face in the place at the 2011 Tequilas and Tamales competition hosted by Eating Our Words. Six competitors geared up for this challenge in the hopes of coming out on top. The event was hosted at El Xuco Xicana (El XX) in Midtown on Thursday, December 15, 2011. The six restaurants competing were TQLA, El Gran Malo, Pico Mex-Mex, Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen, El XX, and Berryhill. After making our way around to sample and indulge in these generously filled masa's paired with equally refreshing margaritas, we were ready to vote! Our tamale choices were TQLA and Pico Mex-Mex and for our tequila we voted for TQLA and El Gran Malo. It seems we weren't that far off as the other voters agreed. With nearly 200 votes counted, TQLA came in second place for their tequila and first place for their tamales. Pico Mex-Mex came in second place for their banana wrapped tamales and El Gran Malo stole first place with their spicy margarita. If you love tamales and tequila, make sure you add these stops to your list!
