We have yet to visit every single brunch spot in Houston, but anyone following behind Canopy had better have their game face on! Canopy Houston is located in the Montrose area and is the sister property of Shade, which is an equally great restaurant in the area. Although very upbeat and trendy in design, Canopy is quite simplistic. Its focus on clean lines and bright colors was very inviting and just right for our girls day brunch.
For brunch we tried...
* The Blood Orange Mimosa
* Fresh Berry Lemonade (made with Tru Organic Lemon Vodka)
* Wild Mushroom, Spinach, Leek and Gruyere Quiche Quinoa~Couscous Salad and Broccolini
* Cheese Biscuits with Homemade Sausage and Gravy topped with Chives With Scrambled Eggs w/Cheese, Fresh Fruit and Roasted Potatoes
* Challah French Toast With Two Eggs Over Easy, Nueske’s Bacon and Fresh Fruit
Where do we start?! Well, let's give the bad news first. The only thing negative about our experience at Canopy actually had nothing to do with the meal or the customer service. Unfortunately, we were not at all impressed by the Fresh Berry Lemonade. I guess the bartender missed the mark on this one because I couldn't determine the taste or flavor they were aiming for! It was bitter and not at all good. When I think of lemonade, I think of sweet and refreshing. This was not that. On a positive note, the Blood Orange Mimosas were great and we had several rounds of those. If you are drinking more than 2 and you have a group, opt for the pitcher at $25. This made up for the one bad fall...good recovery :-)
Now, we have NOTHING bad to say about the food! It was on point, perfecto, yummy, delicious and any other word you could use to describe a meal done right that leaves your taste buds yearning for more. The biscuits and gravy were insane. Foodie beware: Go alone if you plan on ordering this dish. All of your friends will be eating off of your plate as they regret their equally great selections...lol! No joke. It was soooo good. The homemade sausage and gravy sets this dish apart from the rest. We will be back for this one. A+++ Canopy.
The French toast was wonderful and the quiche was all that quiche should be. It was creamy, savory and filled with a ton of great stuff like wild mushrooms, spinach and cheese. It is easily in our top 2 (Shade, their other restaurant, has the other spot). The fruit was sweet and fresh as well. We have all gone to a restaurant that serves you this side of fruit that you never eat because you know the fruit will be bitter. You probably do what we do...push it to the side and focus on everything else. Not here...the fruit bowl was great and included everything from pineapple, honeydew melon, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries.
All that goodness leaves us one huge problem...will we stick with these favorites or will we try something new??? I guess that is a great problem to have; wouldn't you agree!
As we always say...It's not just about the food, it's about the experience.
